About

Cindy Tong is a ceramic artist creating on GunaiKurnai Land in the Gippsland region of Victoria. Drawing inspiration from the intricate patterns of nature, her diverse body of work explores the delicate details and hidden depths found in natural forms, ranging from foliage to geological structures. This fascination with nature’s nuances is evident as Cindy seamlessly transitions between abstract compositions and her interpretive renderings of Australian flora.

In addition to her gallery collections, Cindy also crafts small batch functional ware. These pieces, designed for everyday use, reflect her attention to detail and deep appreciation for nature. Whether it’s a handcrafted mug for morning coffee or a delicately glazed bowl for a shared meal, each item bears Cindy’s artistic touch and reflects her love for the craft.

Each of Cindy’s pieces is a result of meticulous consideration, often paired with carefully chosen complementary glazes, though sometimes left unglazed to emphasize the raw beauty of the clay itself. She continually experiments with a variety of coloured slips and their application techniques, aiming to replicate the organic imperfections and textures abundant in the natural world.

Cindy’s work has been featured in numerous group exhibitions, showcasing her artistry and unique perspective. Her pieces are available for purchase through select art galleries and collectives throughout Gippsland, where they find homes with collectors who appreciate the harmonious fusion of art and nature evident in her creations.
