I’m lucky enough to see all the close-ups of the pretty things that come out of the kiln. This glaze is called Bombora 🌊 because it takes me back to the coast. As a water baby, the ocean always calls to me. It’s true what they say—looking at a body of water really does calm you. When I can’t make it to the sea, these glazes take me there. It’s no wonder my inspiration for naming glazes always comes from the ocean.

These lidded jars were wheel-thrown, closed in, and split in half to create a perfect fit. Hand-carved using a farrier’s hoof knife and glazed in Bombora. 🌊

Welcome to my pottery, where the magic happens. I

Welcome to my pottery, where the magic happens. I don’t have running water—just a bucket recycling system where everything is reclaimed, reused, and recycled until it falls apart. Space is tight, so I work in small batches, making with intention and avoiding firing anything that’s already broken at bone dry or doesn’t make the cut.

With 9 solar panels on the roof (3.3KW), it’s not enough to power the entire kiln firing, but it’s better than nothing. I mop after every throw by splashing clean water on the floor and wipe down after every session to keep dust at bay. It might seem too clean, but I want to do this for life, and silicosis is a real concern (plus, I’m already a bit of a bubble kid!).

There’s always something in progress—whether it’s just thrown, drying for turning, waiting to be turned, decorated, or bisqued, I aim to keep everything moving. The pottery doesn’t get photographed often because, honestly, it’s a hot mess. But this is the reality of a working studio.

So, I challenge all the potters out there—show me your space where the magic happens, unfiltered and in black and white, so we can share with the world what a real pottery looks like. What shall we call this movement? #realpotterystudio
