Through Fire & Flame

Ceramics Exhibition

Stratford’s Segue Community Hub and Art Cafe is set to welcome a new and exciting ceramic art exhibition:
‘Through Fire and Flame’.

This exhibition is a collection of works inspired by the mentorship of renowned Gippsland potter Malcom Boyd, and promises to be a feast for the senses.

The exhibition will host an opening night at 6:30pm on Friday, 31 March 2023.

The exhibition will run from 1st April to 29th April 2023, offering visitors the opportunity to explore the beauty and intricacy of ceramic art.

The collection of works on display is the result of the mentoring by Boyd, who is an acclaimed, award-winning ceramic artist with decades of experience in the field. The exhibition features a wide range of pieces that showcase the diverse styles and techniques used by the mentees, Glenys Evans, Andrea Hall, Wendy Kenworthy-Smith, Joyce Nowrungsah, Bradden Taylor, Cindy Tong, and by Malcolm himself.

Visitors to the exhibition will be able to marvel at the incredible skill, originality and attention to detail that has gone into each piece on display. The works feature intricate textures and patterns, stunning colours, and striking shapes, all created through the careful manipulation of clay and heat. Many of the pieces have been wood fired.

The ‘Through Fire and Flame’ exhibition is an excellent opportunity to explore work created by local potters and gain a deeper appreciation for the skill and artistry involved in the creation of each piece.

While regional Victorian visual arts TAFE and tertiary education opportunities have sadly been cut in recent years, leaving very few opportunities for formal study of ceramic and pottery, Malcolm has always generously shared his knowledge with the Gippsland community. He recently retired as President of the East Gippsland Ceramic Group after 30 years of dedicated guidance and tuition. He continues to support emerging potters and ceramic artists where he can, from his Fernbank studio.

Whether you are a seasoned art enthusiast or simply curious about the world of ceramics, this exhibition promises to be an unforgettable experience.
