A Ceramics Exhibition
This exhibition invites you to explore a collection of hand-carved ceramic capsules, each crafted with intention and precision. Combining wheel-thrown and coil-built techniques, these pieces represent a journey through form, texture, and surface design. Every vessel in this body of work was made and fired in 2025 in my home studio, embodying a year of exploration and refinement through clay.
Beyond the finished forms, Carving into Clay also offers a look into the resources and knowledge that shape my practice. From mentors who have guided my hands to techniques learned from instructors abroad, this exhibition highlights the exchange of ideas and experiences that continue to shape my work.
Through intricate surface decoration, including the delicate art of sgraffito and the precision of mishima, I carve, etch, and inlay to reveal layers of pattern. But what distinguishes these two techniques, and how do they transform a ceramic surface? Visitors will have the chance to learn more about these processes and even witness them in action during a live demonstration.

Artist’s Statement
Each piece is made with intention—some wheel-thrown, then altered to disrupt symmetry and invite complexity and curiosity; others hand-built and carved to create contour and movement. I’m always wondering where the next line will be, whether the form will hold or collapse. I push forward to find that edge.
Through carving, I explore pattern and imagery. No two pieces are the same, though some share a visual thread—glaze, texture, or form. Some works are polished and resolved; others remain concept-driven, experiments in motion. I continue to challenge myself with layered glazes and by stepping beyond what feels comfortable.
I hope viewers don’t just see the hours behind the work, but the passion. Where some might stop, I keep going—that’s where the difference lies. They say you develop a style, and I believe that’s true: the more you explore what you love, the more your voice emerges in the clay.
