The first exercise with Malcolm Boyd was to create structurally sound pots. Starting with a mould and building further height with coils, these pots were then decorated using sgraffito – a method where you apply dark slip over the original clay and scratch out the slip to create an image. I call these my Malcolm pots as they look very much like Malcolm’s signature style of pots, however, they are decorated with my own artwork. This is where it all began.
