The Clay Place is having an open studio weekend on December 17 and 18 from 10am-2pm.

It’s located at 40 Mathiesons Road, Eagle Point, and has been teaching throwing on the wheel for the past four years.

Artist, Wendy Reeve, said the students come from all walks of life from teachers, doctors, nurses and the public in general.

As the classes are small, it makes for a friendly and inclusive environment that is relaxed and a lot of fun.

With a variety of classes and courses on offer there’s something for everyone.

If you’ve ever been curious about doing a pottery class or watching someone throw on the potters wheel then this weekend you have the opportunity to check out the studio where there will be demonstrations on the wheel by tutors and past graduates – you can also have a go yourself.

There will also be an opportunity to talk to the tutors and students about their experiences and what’s on offer to students.

There will be an exhibition of work created by graduates along with tutors.

The award-winning work of Wendy, whose work is inspired by the innate beauty of nature, will also be on display.

Her work displays the often unseen smaller world of nature, capturing the textures and colour of the local flora.

Cindy Tong, who recently won the small sculpture prize at the East Gippsland Art Gallery, also has a deep appreciation for the local flora, illustrated beautifully by her hand carved and incised pieces, enhanced by her colour palette.

Andrea Hall and Bradden Tyler demonstrate their love of all things clay with their unique and skilfully designed work.

Liz McCarthy will also have her colourful work on display at this open studio weekend.

Liz’s love of colour and in particular Chinese glazes began when she studied ceramics at TAFE where she received an advanced
diploma.

With all this amazing work on display it’s a great opportunity to pick up that unique, locally made, gift for yourself, friends and family for Christmas.
